26 releases in 2026
I like to make stuff
That's how I introduce my hobbies. I enjoy creating things in both the physical and digital worlds. I work with wood, metal, plastic, and code, but I rarely show my stuff to people. No project is ever good enough, and the internet crowd is mean, and I'm shy, and it's not useful for anybody but me... On and on the excuses go.
Last year, I saw the maxim "Make it exist first. You can make it good later." about everywhere, and it truly resonated with me. It made me realise I don't need a perfect project to show it, and I don't need an audience to receive it. All that was but an excuse to never publish.
Time for an overcorrection!
I know the best solution to force myself to do something is to announce it publicly. So, here we go: this year, I'll release something once a fortnight. That's 26 releases in 2026, it has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?
Of course, these won't all be brand-new projects started this year. Most are existing projects that just need packaging; many aren't perfectly polished, and most won't be useful to the public. But they are things I have made, and perhaps they might be of use to someone, somewhere.
Below is the list. I will update it periodically and occasionally post a dedicated article for the larger projects that deserve one.
- Project #1: SelfHost – The engine behind this very blog, written in PureBasic for the server and SpiderBasic for the administration panel.
- Project #2: SimpleDoc – SimpleDoc is a colourful and appealing template to package documentation for your users. Given this release spree, it felt appropriate. You can read SimpleDoc's documentation (using SimpleDoc, obviously) here
- Project #3: MaterialSB – MaterialSB brings Materialize, the responsive front-end library based on Material Design from Google, to SpiderBasic.
A large portion of France got flooded, and, while I was lucky and only suffered from a mild inundation, it still messed up the release schedule. I hope to get caught back up with the plan once I have more free time.
- Project #4: Outatime – a one to four players rollback net code implementation for GameMaker, based on Iota and Input.
- Project #5: Zero Shortcut – Released on March the 15th.
